The Polar Express

Despite a head wound earlier in the day that required a trip to the urgent care clinic, we had a great time on the Polar Express.  Charles's friend Campbell from school also happened to be riding at the same time, which made it extra fun!

Christmas Spectacular

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular show came to Durham for a few weeks in November, and while any date prior to Thanksgiving seemed much too early for a Christmas show, I thought that the day after Thanksgiving would be the perfect day to kick off the holiday season. 

Getting ready to hit the road (and we must have been distracted by picture taking, because when we arrived home at 9:30pm that night, our front door was open, and I don't mean just unlocked.  I mean open, as in about two feet, with a clear view of the foyer.  one more perk of living on post - there was absolutely no concern that there would be any issues, we just felt a little stupid)

Horsing around pre-show at the American Tobacco Historic District (which, btw, didn't exist when I was at Duke, but is a cool area right next to the "new" Bulls Stadium, and it's our favorite place to hangout before going to a Bulls game or before catching a show at Durham Performing Arts Center, which also didn't exist when I was at Duke.  To sum it up, Durham is much cooler now than in the early '90s)

Sawyer made it through about three numbers before Charlie escaped with her out to the lobby.  She had much more fun playing out there while Dad watched the remainder of the show on the TV screen (before you ask why we brought an 18 month old to a show, we tried to leave her at home with a babysitter, but the nanny and our back-up were both out of town.  Charles, at 18 months, would have sat still through the entire show waving his arms in delight to the music, but we know better than to expect that of this one)

Sawyer did not survive the evening, but thankfully for Dad, he got a break for about 45 minutes while Charles and I finished watching the show

Charles and I agree, it was a fun show and we're now in the Christmas spirit!

Brave Bear Hunter

Once again, the Pre-K class at Fay'nam Academy transformed into American Indians for a Thanksgiving Day celebration.  Charles chose the name "Brave Bear Hunter," because he was too embarrassed to admit that he already has an Indian name that is used frequently around our house - "Chief White Fanny."

Charles spent some time alone in his room this weekend "cleaning."  When he was finished, he called us into his room to see his final product.

It's been no easy task to get Sawyer addicted to TV, but it appears that we're winning.  It just goes to show what commitment and dedication to a cause can do.

Halloween 2011

We had a wet and chilly, but very fun, Halloween.  What started out to be a 10 minute trick-or-treat expedition for Charlie and Charles turned out to be an hour long marathon that only ended when Charles could no longer support the weight of his candy bucket.  Sawyer and Mom stayed behind to pass out candy to the literally hundreds of trick of treaters.  We went through six huge bags of candy.

For giving us this fun science experiment.  We "grew" this lobster in water and now Charles says we have to keep it forever.  If we take it out of the water it will shrink again.  What a lovely addition to our kitchen!

This morning we drove to Durham to meet up with Jasper and his parents. They are neighbors from DC, and were in Durham for a reunion. Great to see you, Jasper, Vicki, and Mike! We can't wait until you're our neighbors again!
